Weekly Photo Challenge – Rooms

This week’s photo challenge is all about rooms. My take on rooms is a mix of the inside space that encloses us but also the view outside. I took this photo in a town called Cuilapan de Guerrero – it is in Oaxaca, Mexico, one of my favorite regions I’ve been to so far. The town is famous for a former monastery that was never finished. Wandering the grounds was a fantastic way to spend a few hours, as I admired the Gothic details and the blending of indigenous aspects to the Christian-themed art. I chose this particular picture from the monastery for this theme because it was both a calming place but also an inspiring spot. I could imagine some unknown monk sitting there surrounded by the room and his faith, staring out to the distance wondering if what’s out there is chaos or freedom.
